Join FAB

How to join

There are two ways of joining FAB:

In term-time

Come along to our FAB rehearsal on Monday evening (7pm to 8.30pm) in the Fishburn Band Room, meet the Bandmaster, Mr. George Nicklin, and discuss with him the instrument you already play or the new instrument you would like to learn.

Out-of-term

Contact the FAB Acting Secretary, Mr. John Chapman, by e-mail : j.c.chapman@durham.ac.uk) telephone no: 0191 378 0641 and we can discuss what you'd like to do and when the next rehearsals will be held.

If you already know someone who plays in FAB, it would be best to come along with your friend, who can introduce you to the Bandmaster.

Subscriptions

There is a half-termly sub. of £15.00, which you or your parents pay to the Treasurer at the first rehearsal after the school holidays.

Alternatively, you can set up a bank standing order so that the cost of the rehearsals is spread over the entire year, at £9.00 per month.

The band treasurer will give you details of our Bank Account.

Rehearsals

In the Fishburn Band Room, which is in the Industrial Estate off South View (postcode: TS21 4AJ).

FAB rehearsals start at 7pm prompt on Monday evenings in school term-time, going on for 1½ hours with a short break at 8pm.

These are friendly and informal affairs, with lots of advice and help from well-established young players and the older players too.

Lessons

The Bandmaster provides lessons to anyone in FAB whose musical progress suggests it.

Lessons last for 20 to 30 minutes, with a rota agreed between the Bandmaster and the player for Mondays and Tuesdays (5.30 pm to 7 pm).

It is very important that any player unable to attend their lesson gets in touch with the Bandmaster (01388 817914) to let him know at least one day before the missed lesson. Missed lessons cost FAB financially and if you repeatedly miss lessons without warning, FAB reserves the right to cancel your lessons.
